Jamba Juice

Feb. 18th, 2008 | 11:58 am

So Tuesday morning, tomorrow, will be my last official day at Jamba Juice. I may work now and then over the summer when it's busy (and more fun and interesting). It depends on how busy I am. I'm the best thing that ever happened to that store and I wish it wasn't being overrun by irresponsible people. That's why I'm leaving. I'm leaving on good terms, so that's positive.

It's unfortunate I never took pictures of my work friends at work, but there are plenty of pictures of a handful of them on Facebook and my Flickr, some related and some unrelated to JJ - most of my Flickr pics contain people who don't work there anymore.

I'm a little sad about leaving, but I probably won't know the full emotional toll until weeks later when I don't talk to or see my coworkers as much anymore, and watch contact fade from there...

Quote from work today

Jul. 1st, 2007 | 11:52 pm

A girl came in, and I've seen her a few times before. She wanted a drink that we no longer list on the menu, and we don't have one of the ingredients. It's called Kiwi Berry Burner. We don't have the Kiwi juice anymore. Sometimes, Jamba Juice discontinues the drink but leaves it as an option to select in the cash register. When this happens, we have to manually enter the drink into the cash register by selecting the closest matching drink and then modify it by taking out ingredients and adding substitutions.

The point of this post is to tell you this:

The girl walked up and said, "I would like two Kiwi Berry Burners."

I race through my memory to remember what is involved with a Kiwi Berry Burner. Then I say, "Okay..."

She says, "I'm glad you're here."
This is because now we don't have to waste much time with noob employees trying to figure out the drink recipe themselves, and then call me over to fix it for them.

List of funniest things Joey has done at work

May. 2nd, 2007 | 02:03 am

Joey is an employee where I work. He does funny things, what could be categorized as "Freudian slips."

1. I asked him to bring out more breads from the freezer to be stocked up front. He came back holding some breads with his BARE HANDS. I kind of shrieked, "What are you doing???"
2. Today, I asked him to make carrot jambaskets and he was starting to do this. Inside the walk-in cooler, he opened the carrot bag and poured the contents (carrots!) into the large bucket in which we only wash oranges. He rolled it into the kitchen and I noticed what he did instantly and I started laughing...a lot. He said, "I kind of thought I wasn't supposed to do that."

Omg, Joey's hilarious and I'm sad he's leaving the store to go back to the suburbs.
Suburbs = unnecessarily cruel and lame.

Money stealing at work

Apr. 30th, 2007 | 02:39 am

So our store has a money stealing problem, except we can't pinpoint who's doing it, but we are close, and we can definitely tell when. It's a variety of people, and my boss really needs to take a stand, "show some balls," and fire some people to send a message to everyone else that she's serious. She's not a very good GM, that's for sure.

I was thinking that since I am the only person with access to our tips that I should just steal them all so everyone has had a chance to be blamed for stealing something, including me. Let's see...there was the $20 short drawer, the $90 missing drop, the $60 stolen from the safe when my boss left it open for 1 minute to go to the bathroom before the store opened, the stolen iPod which was recovered, and the list goes on.

Dumb customers

Mar. 18th, 2007 | 11:40 pm

This loser came into work today and tried to use a $50 bill to buy his two drinks. My company doesn't accept $50 or $100 bills for any reason. This is for obvious reasons!

Simply put:

Cashier said she can't take the bill.
Customer says it's illegal to refuse a $50.
Cashier calls me over. Says "Customer has a $50 bill..."

I say, plain, simple, and with no attitude whatsoever ("nicely"), "We don't accept $50 or $100 bills," and I walk away.

The customer finishes placing his orders, pays, gets his smoothies and leaves. I discuss with Cashier the event.

He ended up paying with a credit card. I told her she just needs to be firm on cut and dry issues like this. She knows that, but he was blabbering about how it was illegal to refuse to accept his $50 bill, and because she was refusing to accept his $50 bill, he said he deserved a free drink.

That's why she called me over.

This man was being ridiculous. It is not illegal. If it was, he could have called the police on me. And every other store on this block which refuses bill denominations greater than $20.

From the U.S. Treasury:

"There is...no Federal statute mandating that a private business, a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise. For example, a bus line may prohibit payment of fares in pennies or dollar bills. In addition, movie theaters, convenience stores and gas stations may refuse to accept large denomination currency (usually notes above $20) as a matter of policy.

He really should have just STFU and paid with his damn credit card. I wonder if he does this elsewhere.

After he left with this two smoothies, his wife came to exchange his smoothie because he didn't like it.

sleep much? and cell phone update

Dec. 21st, 2006 | 03:34 pm

I woke up at 1:45 today. That's because I went to bed at 4:30 AM. I was working on my website. Early morning, late night is when I am best at coding and figuring shit out. I'm also tired and not tired at the same time.

I worked almost 11 hours yesterday because I have unhelpful employees and two people were sick.

I believe my cell phone has stopped working, and this is earlier than I expected.

My home phone number is 312-829-6992. I have caller ID so I know who's calling. I will probably order a Virgin Mobile phone in a week so I can have limited calling functions and text messaging.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sleep

Nov. 30th, 2006 | 04:23 pm

All I do during the day now is sleep. I have gone to only 10% of my classes this week, and slept all the other times. So far, anything productive has happened after midnight. I go to sleep at 4 AM, then wake up at 8 AM to think about whether or not I should go to class. Then I go back to sleep.

This morning I arrived at my classroom's building only to find I forgot my keys. I could not lock up my bike. I thought about bringing my bike inside, but the classroom is on the 4th floor and the bike was dirty. I went to work, grabbed my backup house keys and came home and went to sleep...till 4 PM. Now I'm off to work.

I'm now awake at night, and sleeping during the day. Whatever shall I do? I know I need a new bed, but I can't afford one right now. I took a cut in hours so I could concentrate more on school. I just concentrate on sleeping now. Ugh.

Work Update

Sep. 4th, 2006 | 12:37 pm

Last night while closing the store, I sliced my finger on the underside of a metal counter. They edges don't curl: they are straight and sharp. This is definitely not the first time (for any of us) and it left a nasty cut in my pinkie. It doesn't hurt any more, but it's ugly and going to scar.

Also, Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, died yesterday from a stringray barb to the heart.

(no subject)

Apr. 23rd, 2006 | 12:41 pm

Going to bed at 9 PM really affected my sleep pattern last night. I woke up around 2 AM and then I had trouble falling back asleep. Then I woke up at 8 AM, so I ate breakfast. Now I'm awake for the day at 12:40 PM and I have to work at 2 PM.

Tomorrow is going to be busy. Gadi and I have to work on our French exam (pain in the butt), and I have to finish my Pilsen presentation. I worked on my Pilsen presentation for like 2 minutes last night; I made an outline:

-Pilsen intro (boundaries, Czech background)
-Who lives in Pilsen
-What you'll find in Pilsen if you go there now
-Uniqueness
-How Pilsen is currently changing

That's it. Ugh.

And I worked for 5.5 hours yesterday because Elliott "threw up" right after he woke up yesterday. He actually couldn't have called me at a better time. I was on my way home to MRH so I walked into work to see how things were going, so yeah, I worked. While I was in there talking to Josh about the siti, I called Pat (who was late), answered two phone calls, took a curbside order and then even delivered the curbside order, all while dressed in normal clothes. Heh.

After work

Apr. 9th, 2006 | 05:06 pm

We definitely didn't make that much today. We can determine this by 11-12 PM. Our breakfast was non-existent. Lunch crowd was weak. Day over. But I got to go home 40 minutes earlier. My 2 minute walk home was tough.

Now I'm going to see an apartment in Logan Square, like 30 mins away from school and work. We'll see... It seems like a great place in the photos, and I talked to the guy on the phone for a minute.

I should have asked him about laundry. It's in house, or no go. This will be my second time in Logan Square. My first time was at night when a guy took me out to see two shitty apartments and I got on the El at California to go downtown.

Yeah. So I'm working on about 3.5 hours of sleep. I went to bed really late because I couldn't fall asleep. I was just so uncomfortable in my bed. I switched ends of the bed, I switched blankets, I even changed my underwear. It's work time now, but none of you ever visit me at work - for obvious reasons - so you won't see how shitty I look right now (I'm not showering).

I don't know who I'm opening with. It better be someone good. Near 60ยบ weather is not going to make it pleasant for us at work. Here's to a $2500 day. Woot.

Hopefully, I can get in three apartment viewings today.
